Owners of the brand new iPhone 4s will experience the following bug when launching Cubetastic or Cubetastic Lite on their phone. Stay tuned – we are on top of the problem and an update will be along shortly.

Please post to Cubetastic’s official Facebook page should you experience any other problems with the game.

NYTimes.com: An App Puts the Twin Towers Back in Sight

NYTimes.com: An App Puts the Twin Towers Back in Sight:
The lastest project we are providing AR technology for made the New York Times (Website).

AR Technology for 110 Stories

doPanic is providing AR technology for 110 Stories – a project that is currently well on its way to be funded with the help of online crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

110 Stories is an Augmented Reality Twin Towers iPhone App looking to bring people together and share their memories of the World Trade Center Towers formerly located in New York.

This quote perfectly sums up how psyched we are about this project:

Augmented Reality on Mobile Phones was a new concept we first delved into about a year ago – and we have been helping other people realize their idea of Augmented Reality ever since. It’s very cool to see the real world merge with technology on such an intuitive level.

To get this opportunity to be involved with “110 Stories” is actively exciting for us. It is the first time we see Augmented Reality being used in such an easy and intuitive fashion and at the same time incorporate such a huge emotional component.

Brian August, Creator of 110 Stories, had this to say:

“110 Stories is very excited to be working with DoPanic in creating this app. My team has done exhaustive research, and concluded that DoPanic’s Augmented Reality engine is the best available technology for the rendering and placement of the Towers”.

It’s not too late to back up this project: www.110stories.com will take you right to Kickstarter.

Advanced Visual Studio Unity Templates

Collection of Visual Studio Templates to make development with Unity easier. Provides templates for all important Unity base classes: MonoBehavior, ScriptableObject, ScriptableWizard, Editor, EditorWindow. There are also a few more advanced templates to create a new MonoBehavior including a Custom Inspector and a class holding Editor functionality for it (kind of adhering to the MVC design pattern). The screen is taken from the German Visual Studio, the templates are in English, however, and can be used in any Visual Studio Edition (2008 and 2010).

We are currently working on PanicAR 1.2 – a free upgrade for all licensed users.

v1.2 will support iOS 5 and bring a bunch of new features:

OpenGL ES 2.0 support (legacy 1.1 support for pre-iOS-5 devices)

iPad 2 Support

4 new AR Object types: ARGeoObject, ARBillboard, ARRadialObject, ARFreeObject which will allow to add custom 2D and 3D objects to the AR View

API will expose a bunch of currently hard-coded parameters

Use of other units of distance (miles/feet instead of kilometers/meters)

PanicAR Licensors will be granted access to all beta versions of the 1.2 revision of the Framework.

Cubetastic Postmortem in the latest issue Unity Creative

Cubetastic Postmortem in the latest issue Unity Creative:
Check out the May-June issue of Unity Creative for a Postmortem of Cubetastic!

Cubetastic for iPhone/iPod now available!

Cubetastic for iPhone/iPod was approved by Apple and is now available on the iTunes App Store.

We have been looking at already available open source solutions, but were not satisfied with their take on solving the specific AR-related issues. We decided to do it our own way.

OpenGL allows for maximum performance and flexibility. Our framework allows us to render high resolution labels on top of a camera view and by that augment location-based information for the user.

PanicAR seamlessly integrates with Panic3D - our asset management solution for 3d objects used in web and mobile applications - and thus allows to use 3d models instead of simple overlay labels for augmentation.

Cubetastic Betatest

We are currently beta-testing Cubetastic in the circle of friends and colleagues.

Cubetastic HD: mixing it up - learing-curve style

After the initial beta test we found that the game mechanics of Cubetastic HD just offer too much possiblities. We had a vast amount of levels - which had yet to be ordered and put into a constant learning-curve to keep the player at the game.

We quickly decided to increase the game’s complexity a bit and put the levels in different challanges which each contain a number of stages, i.e. sets of levels.

The goal of the levels is different for each challange so that the player’s skill is in constant demand. Each level stage introduces a new game element with a small tutorial. After that the player has to complete levels of increasing difficulty. Other challanges and stages will be unlocked in between levels - if one stage gets to hard the player can start or continue with another one.

Cubetastic HD: 40 levels done and no end in sight

Our first iPad game is coming along nicely. Game mechanics are finished and testing has started. Meanwhile 40 levels are already finished for the Challange Mode and another 20 for the Quickgame Mode - this is already a respectable number… and there is still no end in sight. We plan to include around 80-100 levels in the release version of the game.

First Look: Cubetastic HD
